About Light Horse Track Club
Light Horse Track Club was founded in May 2023 by Dustin Sweeney, Andrew Whitacre, and Kevin Wright. The idea was simple: build a running club that could bring people together, support athletes at every level, and make distance running more exciting in the DMV.
In February 2024, we began partnerships with PR Run & Walk and New Balance. Two months later, we launched membership dues and become and offical nonprofit under the RRCA.
In May 2024, we hosted our first Down the Stretch Track Fest. In June 2025, we launched Run Unbridled Track Fest. Both events helped shape what Light Horse is all about: community and elevating running.
In January 2026, we launched our Select and Pro teams, creating a pathway for athletes who want to keep chasing big goals. That March, Star Price became the first Light Horse member to compete at a USA Championship, racing at USA Indoor Nationals. We also hosted our first DC10 Track Fest that same month. In February 2026, we became our own nonprofit separate from the RRCA.
By June 2026, Light Horse had grown to 150 active members. We are still just getting started, but our mission is clear: build community, elevate the sport, and create opportunities for runners at every level.
