Favorite Thing to do when not Running: Reading

Sammy discovered running in college as a way to relieve stress (and avoid just about anything related to schoolwork) thanks to a nudge from her best friend, Katie. What started casually soon became life-changing.

Four years later, Sammy began volunteering as a coach with Girls on the Run of Northern Virginia at a local elementary school. Inspired by the organization’s evidence-based curriculum, which empowers girls to build confidence and develop strong social-emotional skills, she quickly realized she wanted to deepen her impact. What began as a semester-long internship grew into a full-time role, where she continues to serve today.

Alongside her own running journey, where she continues to set and achieve new time and distance goals, Sammy has continued her coaching career. She currently serves as the Head Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Coach and an Assistant Cross Country Coach at John Champe High School, while still coaching Girls on the Run teams during the spring and fall seasons.
